Meet the Photographer
Hello! I'm Bijou-Marie
How would I describe myself?
Always a question that was difficult for me to answer since I was looking for the right english term. Until I thought of a word that we always use in The Netherlands, "gezelligheid", the Dutch way of describing someone cosy, warm, and social.
Next to being "gezellig" I love living in the present and I am always counting my blessings. My glas is always half-full!
What I am passionate about is capturing women in their most powerful and authentic form, through every stage of life. Which is just by simply being a woman. From the quiet strength of motherhood, to creating empowering, feminine-energy imagery.

Why Women?
Women inspire me so much in life. It's not just about the stages of life we go through as mothers. But also the way we carry ourselves, with confidence, feminine energy, and the intention to become the woman we choose to be.
It’s the little things that remind us of our femininity. The way heels make a woman feel confident, and how red lips never go out of style. While growing a little human within our bodies and loving them with all of our hearts once they are finally in our arms. That's where my heart skips a beat. To all women, this is where we honor, you.

Background
Herritage & roots
My name is French, reflecting my French roots, but I was born and raised in the Netherlands. In 2024 I moved, together with my husband Serge, to Richmond, Virginia. Not only because the weather here is better but also so I could turn my passion for photography into a career.
After the big move, I was getting used to this new American culture and I was exploring new landscapes (Utah.. OMG!) other than windmills, tulip fields and the beauty of Amsterdam. I felt so welcomed, got settled quickly and found my happy way of living in the states.
My ways to unwind..
From yoga and herbal teas, to gardening and the outdoors
Unwinding, for me, starts in the quiet moments before the day truly begins. Most mornings, you’ll find me on my mat, stretching and meditating as the first rays of sunlight spill in. It’s my little ritual to reset, breathe, and get ready for a day full of creativity. Followed by a cup of my own homegrown herbal teas.
And creativity? Well, before moving to the U.S., the first thing I asked my husband was, “Can I have my own painting room?” A place to make a mess, pull back, and let ideas run wild. Because for me, creating isn’t just a hobby, it’s a part of my personality.
I have a green thumb and a big love for nature. Hiking, camping under the stars, or just tending my plants. Basically, if it’s outside, I’m there.
My photography style
True to colour style
My photography style focuses on true-to-color, and I have a deep passion for black and white photography. I love highlighting the natural tones, the subtile contrasts, and the richness that comes from genuine light, letting the subject's personality shine without over-editing.
Today, I bring modern editorial style to my work, creating portraits that feel clean, intentional and strong. Exactly what I'm proud of in my photography style.
